This Mother’s Day, surprise Mom with a gift from the heart:
Gratitude Journal
Did you know that feeling gratitude may help bolster your immune system? That’s according to New York Times best-selling author Joe Dispenza, D.C., in a podcast with Jason Wachob, mbg founder and co-CEO at mindbodygreen.com. “Changing your fear to gratitude, appreciation, and kindness for just 10 minutes a day, three times a day, can strengthen your immune system by 50%,” Dispenza says.
So, how exactly can gratitude boost your immune system? Dispenza reasons that it takes a whole lot of energy to worry about things. When you change your focus from worry to gratitude, you are conserving vital energy that can be used in better ways, like to beef up your body’s defenses.
“When your immune system isn’t worrying about your internal stressors (like, say, the anxiety and uncertainty you may be feeling about COVID-19),” writes Wachob, “it can focus more on protecting you from external stressors (like bacteria and viruses).”
There are other benefits to having an attitude of gratitude, including reducing stress, risk of disease and depression while improving your productivity, sleep and happiness.
A gratitude journal is a simple way to help encourage your loved ones to feel more gratitude. Best of all, any journal will do. Simply dedicate the journal to “gratitude” and you’ve got a wellness gift that keeps on giving for Mom, yourself and anyone else you love!
Thank You Letter
Surprise Mom with a hand-written note about why you love and appreciate her, and you may make her entire year. Here are just a few reasons why a note from you is such a spectacular gift: It’s one-of-a-kind, priceless, from the heart, and you can’t buy it at any store. By the way, writing a Thank You letter is just like making a gratitude list, so you are reaping the wellness rewards while also helping Mom feel appreciated on her special day.
Homemade Card
The same holds true for a homemade card. Usually this task is relegated to the little ones in the family, but we think you’re never too old to create your own card! The way we see it, anyone can buy a store-bought card, and you are not just anyone. Besides, the health benefits of creativity will astound you. Research indicates that our creative pursuits help us process trauma and reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and depression by boosting dopamine, a feel-good chemical in our brain.
