We’re absolutely serious here! In the grand scheme of life, there are two main things you can do today to improve your overall quality of life moving forward:
1. Eat a diet with as much living and unprocessed food as possible.
“Living” food refers to food that is as close to its original, natural state as possible, such as fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, poultry and whole grains. Living foods are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals which help to fight inflammation. The more live food you can eat, the better for your body! Bear in mind that we’re not recommending a rapid weight loss scheme, though weight loss can be a nice consequence of following a living diet. We’re gunning for a lifestyle adjustment, and one that’s well worth it if you consider all the havoc eating “dead” or processed food causes (e.g., chronic inflammation, elevated blood pressure, weight gain, high blood sugar, arthritis…).
2. Surrender the need to control (and stress less!)
The most stressful thing we can ask our body to do is to control people or situations outside of our personal space of influence or control. Whether you’re a self-proclaimed “control freak” or relatively easy-going, everyone falls victim at times to feeling stressed over situations or people whom we could not control, or who didn’t follow our preferred plan. Remember the old saying, “You can lead a horse to water but cannot make him drink?” This is what it boils down to. We can help others, lead them by example, and walk a path with them, but forcing them to do something is extremely stressful to our physiology and nervous system. So the next time you find yourself getting worked up over someone or something that is not going your way, consider it a red-flag reminder to take a break and simply breathe.
