Helping you look and feel your best is our passion, so when you’re feeling off your game, a bit blue, or maybe a little stressed, we are eager to help you find your balance again! Here are a few simple tips.
Eat a little dark chocolate.
Dark chocolate, with 70% cocoa content or higher, contains polyphenols, which can assist in increasing nitric oxide to help circulation and pituitary function, influencing your mood. Chocolate increases serotonin and increases phenylethylamine, which acts like an amphetamine, encouraging cells to release dopamine, a pleasure response. Dark chocolate is also packed with antioxidants like the flavanol epicatechin, which helps your body fend off free radicals. Just don’t overdo it, because chocolate is a stimulant food and packs about 200 calories for 2 oz. A little square, rather than an entire bar, is all you need a few days a week to reap the benefits.
Just breathe.
Deep, slow breathing from the belly has stimulating affects to the Vagal nerve and parasympathetic system, which produces a calming and relaxing effect while also helping to improve circulation in the vascular and lymphatic system, balance hormones, and improve cognition, according to a study in Harvard Health.
Create something by yourself or with friends.
Research published in Medical News Today shows that when we are in a creative mode, sometimes referred to as a playful state, it stimulates that parasympathetic (calming) part of the nervous system. In this state, we gain clarity, creativity, enhanced learning, relaxation, and we form better relationships. Creativity is also shown to improve brain function, boost immunity, and suppress cancer. So it’s a great way to shed some stress, have fun, and be healthier!
Massage your hands, feet, or ears.
The most sensory-dense areas on the body exist in our hands, feet, and ears — yes, the ears, too! There are so many health benefits to massage: it decreases our stress level, improves sleep, balances hormones, improves energy, and even decreases inflammation, according to a study in Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine.
Game-changers
Things that maximize life and health balance in significant ways are what I call the “game changers.” Game-changers are centered around knowing your purpose, your perception patterns and awareness, and the actions you take to have an amazing life. Though you could spend your whole life studying this topic, you can start “game-changing” with a simple step focused on giving and receiving. Being able to receive with gratitude and humbleness and doing something for someone every day that improves their life in some way is game-changing behavior. Doing a good deed for someone has tremendous health benefits for YOU, especially when done anonymously, according to a study in Mental Health Foundation
